Holiday Décor

It’s finally the Christmas season and all I want is the most Pinterest worthy décor for my home! As you guys know, my boyfriend Matt and I recently moved into our first apartment together in August. Despite this being our fourth (!!) Christmas together as a couple, it will be the first year we wake up on Christmas morning and make those new memories. For this reason, I wanted our first Christmas in our new home to be extremely special, and I started with this the only way I know how i.e. shopping.

To me, making our place into a real home was always important, and the holidays were the best time to do it. Everything just feels all the more cozy with holiday decorations surrounding you. To start, Matt’s sister Kristin bought us a cute little red sign that now sits in front of our TV wishing us a Merry Christmas. From there I was quickly snowballing into a decorating mad woman.

The most important thing to me to complete the whole room was the tree. In my house growing up, we always had two trees: one upstairs that was ornate, fancy, and beautiful, and one downstairs that was a bit shorter, and decorated using Pittsburgh Penguins ornaments for us kids. (We’re a big hockey family) I went to Michael’s and got the fullest, best tree I could find and immediately fell in love with the idea of mixed metallics (gold, rose gold, and silver). I bought a plethora of bulbs in varying sizes to fill out the immense tree and about 20 painted berry branches to fill in any gaps and add some depth.

Next, I found a matching tree skirt and stockings with our initials on them. I got a lit star tree topper to match our stocking holders for the stand in the living room where they’d go. I finished it off with some holiday candles, and another smaller wooden sign.

For our door, we were graciously gifted a mixed metallic wreath to match our tree, so that every time we enter our home, we are reminded of the warmth of the holidays.

The overall look and feel of the house warms my heart, even if Matt refuses to turn up the thermostat, which may even make it feel more Christmas-like! I’m an early Christmas shopper, so my wrapped gifts already sitting under the tree add an extra touch to the winter wonderland vibe. I’m looking forward to adding much more to this as we spend more Christmases together, but I hope you enjoyed and this may provide you inspiration to get into the Christmas spirit.
