What up! I’m Sadie Kaminsky. I’m 22, and I never flipping learned how to read.
For those of you that caught that Vine reference, let’s be friends! For those of you that didn’t catch that Vine reference, let’s also be friends! They say “quoting Vines” isn’t a personality trait, but it’s 2018, and I say, “Nay!” While I may make a substantial amount of Vine references on a regular basis, I promise if you read some more about me you’ll see that I’m at least a little more than just that.
Born and raised in Johnstown, PA, just an hour and a half outside of Pittsburgh, I always knew my heart belonged in the city. So in 2015, I packed up and decided to call the 412 my new home. Every day in South Oakland since has proven to be more interesting than the last. While the City of Steel has stolen a large portion of my heart, part of it still remains in Johnstown where my close-knit family still resides. I frequently make day trips home to hang with my mama, watch Yankees games with my dad, play basketball with my little brother, and force my dog to love me. My dog, Florence, has a snaggle-tooth that never goes in her mouth, and if there’s one thing you absolutely should know about me, it’s that she’s my greatest love.
As far as interests are concerned, I love all things theatrical and making people laugh. The stage feels like a second home to me, as I’ve been performing on it since I was 5 years old. While my performance career has taken a back seat to pursuing more practical dreams for my future, I still try my best to make time for playing the piano and singing with my roommates. I’m also currently working on perfecting my impressions of Owen Wilson saying “Wow” and Ariana Grande singing “Can’t Feel My Face” in the style of Celine Dion. As always, I’ll keep you guys updated about my progress with this and am open to suggestions on how to improve. On a more serious note, though, where my passion for people and the theatrical may come together on this blog, lies in my willingness and commitment to always try to brighten someone’s day and give students a safe place to come join the conversation about some fun passions we all may share.
Something I, too, am very passionate about is Jimmy Fallon. He is my favorite person basically ever, and I am a firm believer that he and Justin Timberlake should never go anywhere without each other. While that tidbit of knowledge may serve no purpose in future blog posts on this site, honestly I feel it would be wrong of me to withhold such important information from our readers. Remember: we’re providing full disclosure of our lives and experiences on here!
Most importantly, though, I hope to use this platform as an outlet not only to help other college students, but also to make sense of the chaos in my own little world. I consider myself to be an introverted extrovert, and while it may not come across at the surface, I struggle with often debilitating anxiety. Typically, I seek out the pages of books to shelter me from my realities at least for a little while. Recently, however, I’ve turned to writing as a coping mechanism that I’ve found quiets my anxious heart. It’s something I feel comfortable with speaking about openly. So to anyone else struggling with anything, no matter how big or small, I’m here to help you work through it, judgment free. At the end of the day, I’m hoping that everyone can find something within the confines of my jibber-jabber to relate to and hopefully carry with them for a long time.
