My personal favorite Queer Eye "Fab Five" member, Jonathan Van Ness, serves as the show's grooming expert, tending to all things face, body, and hair. In addition to his work on Queer Eye, Jonathan hosts "Gay of Thrones," an Emmy-nominated web series that recaps HBO hit series, Game of Thrones (my favorite!). Jon Snow may know nothing, but Jonathan Van Ness has got the inside scoop on all things Westeros-- a much lighter one than what's experienced on HBO, I can tell you that.
Born and raised in Quincy, Illinois, Jonathan has since spread his wings and taken off from his small-town roots, expanding his reach and lending his contagious optimism to a worldwide audience. A graduate of The Aveda Institute, he packed up and moved to Los Angeles where he assisted at the Sally Hershberger Salon. Now, he is a resident stylist to loyal clientele in both LA and New York at Mojo Hair and Hairstory Studio respectively, styling stars from True Blood and Game of Thrones.
While Jonathan contributes a great deal of personal hygiene and grooming tips and tricks, his most notable contribution for me is his ever-present optimism and humor. Queer Eye exists to enrich people's lives in a tangible form such as through style, food, and health. However, it also serves to inspire the soul, expand the mind, and sprinkle goodness into the human condition. Jonathan's commitment to getting to know the people featured on Queer Eye on a much deeper level and bringing out what makes them shine from the inside out is what truly makes him shine. When I say the man glows, I am not exaggerating. He, too, is a strong figure in support of LGBTQA+ rights, and we stan a genuine lover of all people. To keep up with all the wholesome and joyful happenings of Jonathan Van Ness, you can follow him on Instagram and Twitter at @jvn. I promise you'll find that it was a ~fabulous~ decision.
