I grew up around the same time YouTube was getting big. For the most part, there were no beauty bloggers to point me in the right direction of how to do my makeup and understand it as an art form. My mom has all of my pictures from middle school wearing unblended bright colored eyeshadow and sparkly lip gloss dripping from my lips in goops as if I was Britney Spears or something. Due to this complete in-exposure of what the world of makeup had to offer, I had to do a lot of learning on my own.

Luckily, I think I’ve come quite the far way in what belongs and what doesn’t when it comes to my beauty routine. I can easily blend colors, make looks, and understand that makeup is a building of knowledge. With new products coming out daily, it can seem a little overwhelming on what may be the best for you. The following are a few tips and tricks I have for you based on my own makeup bag:

· Foundation: This can be a tricky subject because of the many formulas and shades available. Depending on your skin type, you may need a different type of foundation than I use. I tend to be much more on the oily side of skin, and hate the feeling of heavy makeup on my face. To combat this, I find that a mattifying foundation, like the Pro Filtr Foundation from Fenty Beauty is the best. It has great coverage and a wide range of shades which are easy to match from by testing shades on the inside of your wrist.

· Eye Shadow: I use a range of eyeshadows depending on the type of look I am going for. My personal favorite company to buy pallets from are Anastasia Beverly Hills, and with my skin tone, I find that the Modern Renaissance pallet suites me best. Its easily blendable and super pigmented, leaving striking colors as a result.

· Brows: To me, brows can make or break a face. It’s important to highlight this feature in a natural, defining way. I think its best to use a dip brow pomade (I use Anastasia Beverly Hills) and a good brow brush to make quick, hair-like strokes to make full, beautiful brows.

I’ve linked where you can find some of these products, but overall trust your gut and when you don’t know, just ask! Sephora is a great resource for those getting in to makeup between online product reviews and beauty experts in store. They’ll always lead you in the right direction.
