“It’s frickin’ bats, I love Halloween.” –Vine.

Despite the unnatural high temperatures in the 80’s this week, it is officially October,

better known as “Spooky Season”. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year for many reasons such as the weather, the changing colors on the plethora of trees on campus, Halloween, fall activities, football, and fall fashion! It’s so versatile, and features the most beautiful, complimentary shades of orange, mustard, yellow, gold, and neutrals as color themes. The possibilities are endless for this season.

To begin, I’d like to list some of my favorite fall fashion essentials in my own closet that I just could not live without.

  • Vests

  • Big Sweaters

  • Jeans

  • Leggings

  • Scarves

  • Fuzzy socks

If you could not already tell, my fall looks, especially for walking around campus are rooted in comfort. Black leggings and dark wash denim can be extremely flattering, and give you a plethora of look options. They can range from being extremely casual paired with your favorite hoodie and a vest or dressed up with a cute burnt orange sweater with bell sleeves or other intricate details. Everyone needs a good pair or two of these.

Scarves are another staple in my fall wardrobe, both for functionality and style. A simple sweater or dress is instantly a more intricate look when paired with a statement scarf. I tend to buy ones with fun patterns and textures to add some extra pumpkin spice to my life. Scarves also help with layering, which is an important technique for fall weather that can range from hot, cold, windy, and sunny all within a single day here in Pittsburgh.

For layering, I highly recommend cardigans and vests to take on and off while walking around to adjust to different temperatures both inside and outside. Some campus buildings can fluctuate with the old heating and cooling systems, such as the Cathedral of Learning. Rain jackets are also a must, because clouds seem to have a way of suddenly appearing without warning here at Pitt.

Going out in South Oakland and other hot spots in Pittsburgh can be as low-key or high- class as you want it to be, so the possibilities are endless. I adore suede and jean skirts paired with body suits, turtlenecks, sweaters, and more. For colder knights, switch out your heels for a pair of booties with a block heel and tights to channel your inner Rachel Green from Friends. As I said before, jeans are always a solid option for maximum comfort. To dress this up a bit, choose a skinny jean cut with a little destruction or a raw hem.

So say goodbye to crop tops and sun dresses because no matter how extra or comfortable you want to be, there will always be an option in fall fashion for you!
