It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, not Christmas... something much better. COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON. Every Saturday, alumnus, students, professors, and fans gear up for a day of food, drinks, fun, and football. The comradery sought amongst peers via tailgating and celebrating your team is a pinnacle part of the “college experience” and ultimately can define each fall semester you spend as an undergrad and on.
That all being said, I always find myself asking a few questions every game day in the morning such as: “Does drinking beer with my breakfast make me a bad person?” “What the HELL am I going to wear today?” Fret no more, because I am here to help you narrow down your choices to rep your school.
First things first, always check the weather for the whole day, as Fall weather in Pittsburgh can be extremely unpredictable. Layers are highly recommended, and investing in a good rain jacket is essential, which you can read about in my next post, Fall Fashion for Women, How to Dress for Class, Evening, and Everything In-between.
Start with your hair, and work your way down. If it’s early in the morning and you seem to be too hungover to be bothered with it, then sporting a neat pony underneath a Pitt retro- colored baseball cap is the way to go. If you don’t own a hat, try various braids to keep your look super low-maintenance. A few fun quirky trends you might see will be space buns, curled hair with a braided top knot, and half-up/ half- down buns for shorter hair. Adding a little glitter in your hair along the part, or everywhere, is also a cute way to spice up your look!
For your makeup, I suggest bright, shiny, blue and gold or very neutral on hot days to avoid the running. The Pitt Shop sells little paw-print face stickers you can put on to show major school pride!
On hot game days, you can get extremely crafty and search Pinterest for ways to cut boring old school t-shirts into tube tops, tanks, and more. I think these typically pair best with jean shorts or skirts. I also recommend wearing your favorite bralette, because a day-long event like a football game and tailgating will inevitably lead to major sweating, which can be uncomfortable with more heavy duty material. You can also wear an XL jersey with some knee- high socks that show off not only your school spirit, but your great legs as well. I know you absolutely love your sandals and flip-flops, but sneakers are the way to go, especially if you are injury prone.
For cooler days, leggings, sweatshirts, and sweaters will be your very best friends. Bubble vests and comfortable boots with fun fuzzy socks can make you a game-day goddess. Always remember to grab your gloves! Maximize your pockets with hand warmers as well, and you can even throw a few in your shoes. A warm and cozy beanie is not only practical, but can be very fashionable as well!
Most importantly, be comfortable. You are there to watch the game and have fun, after all, so don’t spend your day adjusting your outfit. You’ll look amazing no matter what you choose. As always, HAIL TO PITT.
